Torre del Oro // Gold´s Tower

La Torre del Oro es una torre albarrana, es decir, separada del conjunto de las murallas, pero unido a otra torre que sí pertenecia a dicha muralla. Su nombre se debe al recubrimiento de azulejos dorados.
Fue construida entre el 1200 y el 1230 por los árabes.
Actualmente alberga el Museo Naval de Sevilla con cientos de grabados, objetos y documentos pertenecientes a la época en la que Sevilla era el puerto principal para los barcos que provenían de América, el nuevo continente.
A lo largo de su historia ha sufrido varios intentos de demolición pero en todas las ocasiones ha surgido el rechazo de los sevillanos, que hicieron incluso un escrito al rey de España enunciando su negativa.
En lo alto de la torre se puede apreciar una preciosa panorámica del rio Guadalquivir.


The Torre Del Oro is a watchtower, ie, separate from all the walls, but joined to another tower itself belonged to the wall.
Its name comes from the golden tiles coating. 
It was built between 1200 and 1230 by the Arabs.
It currently houses the Naval Museum of Seville with hundreds of prints, objects and documents whichs belong to the time when Seville was the main port for ships coming from America, the new continent.
Throughout its history it has undergone several attempts demolition but on every occasion has arisen rejection of Seville, which made even a letter to the king of Spain stating his refusal.
At the top of the tower you can see a beautiful view of the river Guadalquivir.
